It was a short CRA week…. because…. drumroll please……. C O V I D V A C C I N A T I O N D A Y !!!!!!

Since I wasn’t very sure how the vaccine would go, I decided the day of the vaccine and the day after would be recovery days, giving us a 4 day weekend for Veteran’s Day. But, leading up to the vaccine, we did have a lot of work to do including learning a lot about vaccines.

Knowing that he would need some time to process and prepare himself about the vaccine, we dedicated all day Wednesday to feeling prepared. This supports his anxiety as he arms himself with knowledge. We learned details about the history of vaccines, the technology behind the mRNA vaccines like Pfizer, and then practiced wearing a mask until we found one that would stay on for the 18 minutes required to get the vaccine, and finally as anxiety mounted close to bedtime he used syringes to understand how small the dose would be. By vaccine day, he was prepared and excited. He walked in confidently, was surprised when the shot was behind him, and waved at all of the nurses on his way out cheering!!

After the vaccine, which was at 7:30 am on Thursday, E felt great all day. I had hoped we would spend time playing an iPad game together to rest but of course he had other ideas. We spent the day working on creating new fonts and some other projects. he had in mind along with a few trips outdoors to enjoy nature and throw the ball for Jojo. He had a bit of a sore arm the evening of the vaccine but slept well and woke up completely full of energy and ready for the day on Friday.

We spent the rest of the long weekend together enjoying all the beauty of the fall colors surrounding us… and excitedly waiting for the second dose because the Apple Store is calling!
