The last full week before our beach trip called for some executive function skills practice. One of our main goals this week was addressing the challenge: “Can everything we need to pack fit in the car!?” E spent time making lists of the things he depends on having to feel comfortable which included thinking through meal plans for groceries, vacuum compressing bedding and linens, gathering self care supplies and of course thinking through two weeks worth of entertainment supplies. We then thought about the things everyone else in the family would need and about how to ensure Jojo was well cared for in our absence. E took it upon himself to carefully pack 30 individual bags of Jojo’s daily meds just to be sure that the dogsitter had it under control.
We spent the rest of our time investigating each of the questions he had pondered about ocean life. This resulted in many hands on activities and interesting tidbits that sparked further conversation.
Interestingly, E woke up one morning wanting to learn about the Egyptians. I’m unsure what sparked this interest but we ran with it as an opportunity to learn about another culture. We mapped the location of where the Egyptians lived, read about their beliefs and culture, watched virtual tours of key landmarks, learned about the Rosetta Stone and how the Egyptians hieroglyphs have been decoded, then explored Egyptian Relics through an online museum. Finally, E spent time making his own hieroglyphs font.
