Week 4: Recap

September 10, 2021

We were excited this week to experience remnants of a hurricane in our area because it brought with it some strong winds. This is one of those days that we threw the conceptual plan for CRA out and instead dove deeply into a study of weather, aerodynamics, and 3d fabrication.

Etymology

Later in the week, we began the study of Etymology. E loves mysteries and decoding messages and has always been passionate about language so it feels like Etymology could be a topic of interest. It will simultaneously support vocabulary and spelling. To make this content approachable, I customize the delivery in a format I know E will respond positively to.

We completed several other questions in our All Things Ocean experience this week as well. We answered the questions “What is sand and where does it come from?” and “Why is the ocean salty” as well as learning more about ocean currents and sand dollars.

Finally, we ended the week with a Maker Challenge. E was asked to create a solution to the problem of… “I’m stuck on the toilet and someone has used all the toilet paper!!” His constraints were that the toilet paper must be delivered while preserving privacy of the person on the toilet and only the items in the environment are available to leverage. The starting point was the entry door which is down one step.
